Spotlight: AgentBuild — the website that lives inside your ChatGPT chat
What it is. AgentBuild is a website builder with no editor to log into. Instead of a dashboard, you talk to the ChatGPT or Claude you already use, tell it about your business, and it sets up your domain, writes the copy, wires up email, and keeps the site updated as you keep chatting. Their own example is a restaurant owner snapping a photo of tonight's specials board and asking the AI to update the menu. That's the whole workflow.
The smart part. Most "AI website builders" bolt a chatbot onto an existing editor. You still end up in their interface, and the AI still starts every session from zero. AgentBuild flips that: the website is the thing being managed, and the AI doing the managing is the general-purpose one you're already using daily, with your existing context (your files in Drive, your calendar, your Gmail threads) already available to it. Their pitch, "your agent can change, your website doesn't have to," is the actual differentiator. If you move from ChatGPT to Claude to whatever comes next, the site and its history aren't supposed to reset with you, because the memory lives in the ongoing relationship with your AI, not in a proprietary editor you'd have to relearn.
That's a real bet on where this category is going: rather than compete on drag-and-drop UI, they're competing on being invisible infrastructure that any capable agent can operate. It also means their job is less "build a good editor" and more "build good tools for an AI to call," which is a genuinely different, and currently underbuilt, engineering problem.
Who should try it. Small business owners and solo operators who already live inside ChatGPT or Claude for other parts of their work, and who want a professional-looking site (fast hosting, real domain, real email, basic SEO/AEO groundwork) without learning a new tool. The restaurant example on their homepage is a good tell for the target customer: someone who wants to update a menu or add a testimonial by chatting, not by opening a CMS. If you're the kind of founder who already asks ChatGPT to draft your emails and would rather ask it to update your homepage too, this is built for you.
Who should skip it. If you want granular visual control (pixel-level layout, custom animations, a very specific brand system), a chat interface is the wrong tool no matter how good the AI's judgment is. It's also not for anyone building something beyond a marketing or small-business site, there's nothing here suggesting it handles e-commerce complexity, membership logic, or custom app functionality. And because it explicitly requires a ChatGPT or Claude account and is in open beta, if you're not already comfortable trusting an AI assistant with your domain, email routing, and content, this will feel like handing over more control than you want to give up on day one.
Where it goes next, in my read. The interesting risk isn't the product idea, it's the dependency. AgentBuild's whole value proposition rests on whatever agent capabilities ChatGPT, Claude, and Perplexity expose staying stable and getting better, which is not entirely in their control. The pricing shown ($0, $15/month, $120/year) suggests a free tier alongside a real paid plan, though it's not clear yet what's gated. If they can keep the "switch your AI, keep your site" promise durable as these platforms evolve their own agent and plugin ecosystems, they've picked a genuinely defensible wedge. If the underlying AI platforms decide to build this themselves, that's the more obvious threat to watch.
